The latest edition of the Tang Soo Do Complete Book of Hyungs contains step-by-step written instructions and drawings for learning 25 Tang Soo Do Hyungs. These include Kee Cho Il Bu, Kee Cho E Bu, Kee Cho Sum Bu, Pyung Cho Dan, Pyung Ahn E Dan, Pyung Ahn Sum Dan, Pyung Sa Dan, Pyung Oh Dan, Nai Hanji Cho Dan, Nai Hanji E Dan, Nai Hanji Sum Dan, Bassai Cho, Bassai Dai, Jiin, Ship Sum (Sip Soo), Jion, Ginto, Jitti, Wang Shu, Kang Sang Koon So, Kang Sang Koon Dai, O Sip Sa Bo Dai, Tae Kuek Kwan So, Tae Keuk Kwon Dai, and Sojin. The book also includes a unique history of Tang Soo Do, the relationship between each Hyung and its symbol (usually an animal), and the importance of these forms as taught by early Korean Kwans.
In addition, the book provides definitions of the Korean Kwan leaders, as well as information on the early minor and major Kwans, the Kwan creators, and the styles taught at each Kwan. The latest edition features almost 1000 new drawings to help readers better understand each step of the Hyungs. Each drawing is numbered and corresponds to a numbered written instruction. Line drawings are included to illustrate Hyung movements and directions of motion, providing a comprehensive perspective of the practitioner's movements.
The book also includes a matrix for correlating Korean Hyungs to their Japanese and Okinawan Kata counterparts, highlighting similarities between them. An East-West chronology is provided to show the development of Korean Martial Arts in relation to global events over centuries. It is recommended to use this book as a memory aid while learning or after a period of not practicing the forms, in addition to receiving formal instructions from a qualified Black Belt Tang Soo Do Instructor.
These memory aids are meant to supplement instruction from an Instructor and should not be used as a primary means of learning the Hyungs. They are intended to assist students in achieving the necessary level of coordination, balance, breathing, and comprehension as determined by their Instructor.
